The Margaret Hooligans - What Kind Of Donut Are You?
Something I never guessed I needed in my life was artists exploring the deep, philosophical questions posed by Buzzfeed quizzes, and after listening to this track you will feel the same. “What Kind of Donut Are You?” by The Margaret Holligans as its name implies is here to explore just one single question and that is very simple “What Kind Of Donut Are You?”. This song with its silly premise has no reason to go as hard as it does, but nonetheless, The Margaret Hooligans took this song and jam-packed it with riffs that kick hard, whimsical vocals and drumming that melt your face off. So while you and I examine the deep psychological implications of figuring out if we are cereal-sprinkled or rainbow-frosted donuts or something else altogether, we can enjoy the goofy brilliance of The Margaret Hooligans!
Collapsed Tower - Waves
If you appreciate good guitar work and want a moody atmospheric instrumental that chews up the scenery, then “Waves” by Collapsed Tower is the song for you. This gem of rock music blends elements of Alternative and Hard Rock music to deliver pure dopamine to you as you listen to it. Every note is meticulously placed and the whole song is the signature of a virtuoso who can make their instrument sing. As much as I might harp on about the guitars, the supporting instrumentation isn't anything to sleep on either, with steady authoritative drums and a well-rounded low end, Collapsed Tower builds a dizzyingly powerful soundscape. “Waves” is a deliberately crafted chef d’oeuvre and I’m all here for it and so should you!
Cardboard Boxer - Tunnel Vision
An Alternative and Punk Rock themed track “Tunnel Vision” by the Cardboard Boxer is an energetic track that will have you banging your head along to the riffs and beat. The vocals are raw and full of life and the instrumentation works better than a black coffee does in injecting energy into your veins. Cardboard Boxers draw heavy inspiration from the quintessential Punk Rock sound, but sign it with their own signature sound making the song feel familiar but altogether distinct at the same time. “Tunnel Vision” is an amazing song and hits all the right spots in your ears!
Diamond Lake - Fazing
Diamond Lake’s “Fazing” is a beautifully cinematic song that would fit in naturally in the second act of any gritty noir-inspired movie. But that’s not the only impression this song will leave on you, as it features one of if not the fattest basslines I’ve ever heard. I could gush about the bass in this song forever because Diamon Lake simply nailed it with the tone and its presence in the mix. But I won’t because the rest of the song is equally worthy of praise as the passionate vocals and other instrumentation come together to craft an atmosphere like no other. Diamond Lake’s “Fazing” was a love-at-first listen for me and I’m confident it would be for you as well!
Jeezel Petes and Dissonant Dessert - Missed It
If there's any artist who embraces experimentation with open arms it’s Jeezel Petes and collaborator Dissonant Dessert and their latest work “Missed It” is an intricately crafted tapestry of sounds. They have taken individual musical motifs that might sound odd or dissonant separately and put them together to create something magical. This seeing-eye dog approach to song crating is nothing short of straight alchemy in my opinion and needs artists who have a firm vision of what they want to create and who are bold enough to put it out there in the world, and by god does it pay off as “Missed It” is a masterpiece. Jeezel Petes and Dissonant Dessert are more than musicians, they are in my opinion the soul of rock music as you can’t create something brilliant without trying something new!
