Music is not just all about having catchy beats and melodies but is also art that carries strong and profound messages that make you think. The artists introduced to you by LITM Rock Picks This week embrace that notion with open arms, so familiarise yourself with the works of Garland Kelley, The Trusted, The Hilder, Curse of Lono and Harry Kappen!
Garland Kelley - Give It All Away
Garland Kelley owns his unique sound and nostalgic style with his latest release “Give It All Away”. His sound is a wonderfully distinct blend of modern with 80s-style indie blues. “Give It All Away” is a deeply thoughtful song with incredibly philosophical undertones in its songwriting. The lyricism tackles the trappings of materialism and encourages us to give it all away. In the instrumentation, Garland manages to capture thoughtful melancholy with frantic urgent motifs giving the song a wavey motion. “Give It All Away” is the whole package with a smooth listening experience and a message that makes you think, and you should go check it out!
The Trusted - Doomsday
You can trust The Trusted (pun intended) to deliver atmospheric edgy rock music and they sure do deliver on that promise with their latest release “Doomsday”. An infectious rhythm supported by a groovy bassline emanates through this track and The Trusted have simply perfected tone on this song. Both the overall tone of the song as well as the individual tone of the guitars, bass and singing, all of which they use to great effect to build a soundscape that's reminiscent of late 70s new wave artists such as the Clash. “Doomsday” is an absolute blast to listen to (no pun intended) and I’m sure you’ll love listening to it as much as I did!
The Hilder - Flipside
“Flipside” by The Hilder is a powerful track that is full of heartfelt passion and energy. Opening on echoing guitar arpeggios that lead into fiery vocals their sound style is unmatchable in its vibe and is a joy to listen to. “Flipside” also carries a strong anthemic energy to it and has all the stylings of a classic festival audience participation banger. The songwriting on this piece is also incredibly touching and relatable, filling you with an indescribable warmth. The Hilder is unbelievably talented as a musical outfit and a song with the quality of refinement and craftsmanship as “Flipside” makes me excited to see what they’ll put out next!
Curse of Lono - Krieger
I’ve not heard a song that’s got me hooked and holding my attention as quickly as “Krieger” by Curse of Lono has. From the opening seconds with the bassline so low and rumbling it feels like thunder and Curse of Lono’s raspy and raw vocals had the anticipation building for what was coming next. “Krieger” is a bit of a slow burn but its worth the wait during your listen as the song reaches a polished and powerful crescendo near the end. Curse of Lono is wickedly talented and has perfected the art of telling a story with music, so go check his music out!
Harry Kappen - Not all of us agreed
Harry Kappen’s eclectic new single “Not all of us agreed” is a catchy track that will have you singing along to it in no time. Harry uses a blend of organic instruments and synth lines to create a whimsical soundscape with a jovial musical ambience. The lyrics of this piece are profound and thought invoking and the songwriting is a thorough indictment of the rapid advances in technology and how that causes breakdowns in human connections and communication. Despite having a jovial disposition this piece carries an undertone of urgency and Harry juxtaposes the two brilliantly. I loved listening to “Not all of us agreed” so go check it out!
