LITM Rock Picks Bring You The Moody and Revolutionary Music of DAAY, So It Was and More!

LITM Rock Picks this week are atmospheric and have dizzyingly wide musical ambiences that will elevate your sense and deliver pure sonic ecstasy to your ears. Enjoy the talents of Molly Baker, CS Hellmann, So It Was, Moose Wrench and DAAY!

Molly Baker - Stunt Double

Molly Baker’s latest single “Stunt Double” has an infectious pop-rock feel to it and is unbelievably catchy. Molly’s singing is evocative and the instrumentation is raw, featuring energetic riffs with a wonderful bassline supporting it. The sound of this song is influenced by the stylings of  Olivia Rodrigo and sits well at the boundaries of having a fun beat and poignant lyrics. Molly perfectly captures how it feels like when you are doing emotional gymnastics while you are dealing with someone who’s treating you as a punching bag with her lyricism on “Stunt Double”. A perfectly rounded song, this is some of Molly’s best work yet!

CS Hellmann - Up Til Dawn

CS Hellmann brings a nostalgic and moody masterpiece with his latest track “Up Til Dawn”. The song has a quintessentially 80’s vibe to it with dark melodies and an ambience that captures perfectly the pensive atmosphere of being up late at night. Hellmann’s songwriting is introspective in nature and the instrumentation is peppy with an ear-catching hook to it that just pulls you into the music. The vocal performance on this track is also nothing short of spectacular with the songwriting remaining deep-cutting and vulnerable with these motifs reflected in the instruments. CS Hellmann is immensely talented and he shows off his chops in all their glory on “Up Til Dawn”!

So It Was - Speak Now!

I couldn’t ever imagine being nostalgic for a sound from a genre of music that saw its genesis almost seventy years ago. But nonetheless, here I am with So It Was’ latest release “Speak Now!”.  A lovely Bossa-Nova sound emanates through this track while still having a modern-sounding edge to it, taking you to a tranquil place in your mind. The songwriting on this piece is also brilliantly self-reflective dealing with themes of hesitating to speak your mind with a hopeful note of self-improvement subtly blended into the mix. So It Was has crafted a melodic marvel on this piece and you should go check it out!

Moose Wrench - Not Dead Yet

Moose Wrench’s sound is unbelievably energy-inducing with their strong hard rock and metal influences in their latest song “Not Dead Yet” will have you fit to run a marathon even if you were in the sleepiest of moods when you started listening to it. The song features brutal guitar riffs, fat basslines an electric solo and gritty vocal lines and growls, Moose Wrench really gives you the whole package. It’s also incredibly easy to sing along to this song with the repeated lyric of “Not Dead Yet” being contagiously catchy. I loved listening to this track and so will you!

DAAY - Top Heavy

A psychedelic sensory trip DAAY has not crafted just a song but an entire experience with “Top Heavy”.  The sound is chaotic and an adrenaline rush in all the best ways, featuring interesting recording samples and synths sitting atop drums that are steady as well as brassy jazz elements. You will know you are in for a ride from the moment you hit play as the song never sits still for even a second, constantly shifting, swinging and swaying. The result of this fast-paced action in the music is a song that holds all of your attention without a second's falter. DAAY are artists with a strong vision and this song has me anticipating what they put out next!
