There’s an arresting sadness in the two note riff that forms the basis of Frank Leone’s new song ‘Huffing Paint’. His bars are suitably melancholic: “I ain’t got god on my side / he took my brother away” but it never sounds saccharine or insincere. It feels like a futuristic entry into the hip hop canon in that there isn’t really anybody that sounds like Frank Leone right now. The young rapper/singer/producer is mining the wells of originality, and there’s no doubt that he’s only a couple of cosigns, or a really great feature (with say, Chance) away from superstardom.
