This collaboration between Londoners Tyler Darrington and Tristan Gibbs aka Fanshore & Tropic is a special one. Built around a simple beat with subtle variations and some interesting bass guitar phrasing, the duo have carved something refreshingly groovy. Stylistic funk guitar lines lead the song along with the vocals. It comes from a similar vein to the artsy sad boy hip hop style of King Krule, but with a definite relish for the more elemental funk sampling of nineties rap. It’s formative days for both musicians, but already their musicianship has an impressively high ceiling.
