‘Letter To Matithia’ is the enigmatic Akello G. Light’s best composition yet in terms of sheer musicality, and it serves as an instrumental love letter to female hip hop culture. Whoever the titular Matithia is is totally beside the point. This is grand instrumental hip hop in the vein of Dilla and Madlib, with a touch of Monster Rally in its sweet sampled guitar lines. It’s an impressive change of mood for Akello, who up to this point has been known for making obscure and impenetrable compositions the likes of which make even Dean Blunt a little tremulous. All things considered, this is a a delightful aural feast.
