Few record labels support creative, progressive soul music like Stones Throw. One of the more recent additions to the Los Angeles label’s stable is the duo The Steoples, made of Gabriel Reyes-Whittaker and Yeofi Andoh. The duo’s most recent single “Roles,” off the forthcoming album Six Rocks, is a dreamy, captivating entry into the Stones Throw canon. The pulsing drums and ethereal production give apt support for Gabriel's self-conscious lyrics about becoming a villain to someone. The track has very little harmonic variation and yet The Steoples maintain the listener’s attention with soulful vocal delivery and various flourishes in the guitar and production. Accompanied by an enchanting video, “Roles” offers many reasons to be excited for Six Rocks, their upcoming album.
