TOPS’s latest song ‘Petals’ is full of that clean life-affirming groove found all over Nile Rodgers’ cameos on Random Access Memories. It’s a sun-bleached strut down nostalgia lane - an ideal song for the warmer times ahead. There’s minimal synth on the recording, often emerging to provide ambience, but really this is a meat-and-potatoes guitar-and-bass sort of affair, and it’s remarkable just how vibrant this record sounds. Vocalist Jane Penny’s gentle cooing is the finishing touch to what feels like an impressively simple song.
TOPS' third LP Sugar at the Gate will be released on June 2nd, pre-order here
