If we were looking to soundtrack a film adaptation of William Gibson’s seminal cyberpunk novel Neuromancer we’d probably go for anything off the new Grimes album, or this mysterious little track. Hermann Newman’s ‘Console Tone’ has been out for about three weeks but it landed in the inbox today. Featuring the Japanese language vocals of Luna Himoe it’s a weird and rare beauty. Basically a J-pop number set to a dubby tempo, it crawls along wearing its sci-fi strangeness as a badge of honour. On boldness alone it gets top marks.
