The loss of Phife Dawg earlier this year was a massive blow to the hip hop community. A Tribe Called Quest had a unique standing as the first band to explore the fusion of jazz and hip hop so exemplarily. Milwaukee hip hop duo AUTOMatic play the kind of hip hop that Quest made on their seminal album The Low End Theory. A stand-up bass and smooth lounge bar licks soundtrack a song about love and the many ways it can be channelled. No doubt Phife is in hip hop heaven beaming inspiration back to these guys.
