Listening to ‘WIAGW’ by Belgium’s Robbing Millions is like taking a gleeful excursion into batshit kingdom. Starting with some harmonised cooing, the group build an arrangement that’s restless, unpredictable, and in a word, blinding. There are synths in the mix, there are guitars, and all hopes of differentiating between the two are dashed like a fart in the wind as textures morph into other textures. It’s so damn freaky that we’re not even sure what to call this one. There’s some of the psychedelic fearlessness of Connan Mockasin’s seminal Forever Dolphin Love for sure, and various sonic hallmarks indicate a close affinity with contemporary psych, but Robbing Millions are so unique, (or good at hiding their tracks), that these comparisons are only useful to an extent and fall limp if you labour them too much. Enjoy this one for what it is: one of a kind.
