Happyness first burst onto the scene in London a couple of years ago with their unique nineties American college rock influenced songwriting. The first single off their next album is called ‘Falling Down’ and it hints at a mellow maturation of sorts. Often they’ve been compared to Pavement in the past for evoking a certain indescribably nineties-feeling nostalgia. Perhaps the Pavement comparison has never been more apt till this song. After almost two minutes of psychedelic wigging-out the track suddenly erupts into a flavourful pop song with sweet descending guitar lines and a poetic delivery reminiscent of Malkmus. It manages to have enough of its own charm to feel more like a continuation of a style than a pastiche.
